What to Expect?

Start here to find out about what to expect on consultation day—and in the longer term—with our specialist care.

AT YOUR CONSULTATION APPOINTMENT

What can you expect at your consultation appointment?

Your specialist will complete a thorough assessment of your condition, including clinical examination, imaging, and a review of your medical and dental history. Please bring your referral letter, Medicare card, health fund card, a list of current medications, and any existing imaging or scans. Depending on the complexity of your case, treatment options may be discussed at this appointment or following further assessment. A report is sent to your referring dentist with findings and recommendations.

Medical and dental history

Bring a list of current medications and any relevant medical history. Your specialist will also review factors such as smoking history, previous treatment, or injury.

Clinical examination

A clinical assessment of teeth, gums, bite, and structures. For periodontal this includes pocket depth measurements and gum health indicators.

Imaging and scans

X-rays and, where required, 3D imaging are used to assess bone structure, nerve positions, and the full extent of your condition.

Findings and treatment options

Your specialist explains what’s been found and talks you through the available treatment options, including what’s involved and any alternatives.

Treatment quotation

A detailed quotation including ADA item codes is provided, so you can confirm rebate eligibility with your health fund before treatment.

Report to your dentist

A report of findings and recommendations is sent to your referring dentist (if you were referred) so your care remains coordinated.

FEES AND PAYMENTS

What to expect with fees, payments and private health insurance.

Consultation fees

Consultation fees are $195 for our oral and maxillofacial surgeons and $250 for our periodontists. This includes all investigations, radiographs, and a comprehensive discussion of findings and treatment options.

Treatment quotation

A detailed quotation with ADA item codes is provided before any treatment proceeds. You can contact your health fund to confirm your rebate eligibility before committing to treatment.

Medicare

Medicare doesn’t cover dental treatment, but some oral and maxillofacial procedures are partially rebated. We’ve integrated Medicare Easyclaim to process rebates at the time of payment.

Private health insurance

Extras insurance provides rebates on dental procedures based on your policy level and cover. For in-hospital procedures, your hospital insurance may cover part of the cost of theatre, surgery, and anaesthesia.

Payment options

We accept credit card, EFTPOS, and Electronic Funds Transfer, and offer 12-month interest-free funding through Zip Money, Afterpay, and Humm. General anaesthetic procedures require payment prior to surgery.

TREATMENT PROCESSES

What to expect with treatment processes.

Treatment is tailored to your specific condition and may range from in-chair periodontal care to surgery performed in hospital. Your specialist explains what’s involved before any treatment begins, including the type of procedure, anaesthetic options, and what to expect during recovery. Where treatment involves coordination with other specialists or your referring dentist, this is planned in advance so your care is managed as a whole.

  • Your condition is assessed through clinical examination, imaging, and review of your history
  • Treatment is planned to your individual presentation, with specialist input where required
  • Anaesthetic options are selected based on the procedure and your individual needs
  • Healing is reviewed and your response to treatment is monitored by your specialist
  • Ongoing care is coordinated with your referring dentist to support lasting results
